Last week my class were celebrating The Week of Holocaust. Because of that we ware in the Markowa. It’s a very important place. During Second World Ward a lot of Polish people was killed there,  because they ware trying to help especially Jewry people. For example we ware talking about family of Ulma. They ware amazing and really brave. They helped to survived eight people!!! It had to be really hard. They had hided them for about two years. Unfortunately someone betrayed them, and all family was murdered. I have no idea what I would do, if I ware them. I wish I could do the same, but I know that it would be really hard.
The second part of our Week of Holocaust was watching film called “Korczak”. This film is about an amazing men who gave his live for children. He was lived with them, working with them, playing with them, smiling with them, crying with them and at last he died with them. Because of him the children had normal and happy live during Second World Ward. He gave them happiness and I admire him.
I read and watch a lot about people like Janusz Korczak, Irena Sendlerowa and family of Ulma, because I want to know why I should say “ Thank you “ for Gad.

After the trip to Markowa I feel more versed in holocaust. This place is connected with the Ulma family - people who tried to protect Jews. Unfortunately, they were killed with hiding Jews because of the delation. We’ve visited their grave. The previous day, we’ve watched a film about a great man: Janusz Korczak. Personally, I’m interested in films so I really enjoy watching them. I didn’t expect something very special from old movies but I can honestly say that I'm positively surprised at this film, titled "Korczak". This production has been directed by famous Andrzej Wajda. The main role in this film has been played by Wojciech Pszoniak and I should leave a comment in here. Thanks to great costume designers and make-up artists, the actor playing a role of Korczak was very similar to the real Janusz Korczak. I couldn’t believe that it was only actor in disguise! And also excellent acting talent of Wojciech made this character more realistic. I think that the film „Korczak” is perfect for everyone interested in history and old movies. Plot is based on true facts and tragic realities of war are presented naturally, so the spectators can feel that terrible atmosphere of holocaust. The only thing which is not connected with the truth is the final scene. As we know, Korczak has been killed in concentration camp in Treblinka with children from orphanage because of being Jews. In the movie, end is optimistic and metaphorical. I won’t say how it ended – you should see it for yourself!

 THE MOVIE
On Monday (11.02.14) we were watching a movie about a great man: Janusz
Korczak entitled - of course - "Korczak", but before we started one of our teachers, mr.
Dariusz Zieba told us something more about a fate of Jews during WWII. It was very sad though. They had to live in terrible conditions: in ghettos, with nothing to eat, nowhere to sleep, no one to trust...
It was a great introduction to the movie, because Korczak was one of the people who tried to help them out. He was also a Jew, but due to his fame, talent and knowledge, he had a chance to live normally. He loved children. Along with his friend "mrs. Stefa" he was running an orphanage for Jewish children. When Germans came to take these children to ghetto, he came with them even though he didn't have to. Korczak was protecting them till the very end. He said that he's ready to do anything just to help these children. The movie itself was very interesting. The plot was touching, especially at the end, which was kinda metaphorical. It was a grat job, which is no suprise, because the director of this film was famous Andrzej Wajda.
I think that I can recommend it to anyone who is interested in a story of a great man - Janusz Korczak.
    TRIP TO MARKOWA
On Tuesday (12.02.14) we went on a trip to Markowa - the hometown of the Ulmas family famous for their sacrifice in the name of human life and their own honour.
First, we went to a cementary to see their grave and mr. Zieba told us their story.
It was sad and beautiful at the same time. Later, we visited an open air museum of Markowa. We saw some cottages, a mill band a lot of old photos, mainly taken by Józef Ulma himself. It seemed that they were living happily before the war has started. The Ulmas died on 24 th of March, 1944, because they were trying to help their Jewish neighbours. It was really sad to hear about that, but their story shows that even during the war there were several people who still cared about the others and were ready to sacrifice themselves.
I personally enjoyed that trip. It was very educational and interesting.
    SUMMARY
Both stories - the one in the movie and the one about Ulmas - shows how cruel and merciless the holocaust was, not only for Jews, but also for their friends and neighbours.

11 th of February we were on the trip to Markowa. It’s a little place near the Rzeszów. We went there to find informations about Holocaust near our city.
The trip was very interesting. First, we went to the cemetery in Markowa. We were looking for the tomb of the Ulma family. Our teacher told us, that this people were hiding Jews during Second World War. Victoria and Joseph Ulmowie risked their lives to help strangers. This story was very touching.
Then we were doing photos with all the group next to the tomb and we went to the museum in Markowa. We saw how lived people a lot years ago. Their lives were much more different than our lives, so we were a bit surprised. Now, life without computers and mobile phones is a quit strange. But stranger was living with hens near our bed. 
Next we were watching exhibitions about Ulma family. It was very interesting. Then we came back to school and we thought about this what we learned during our expedition, and it was this very much.

The Holocaust was the extermination of millions of Jews by the Germans. In Poland in the years 1939-1945.
For a closer look at the topic of  the Holocaust my group watched the film  ‘Korczak’ by Andzej Wajda and they visited the museum in Markowa. Unfortunately I couldn’t watch the movie and go to the museum but I watched the film ‘The boy in the striped pyjamas’ by Mark Herman. The film  tells the story of an eight-year boy (Bruno) who with his parents and sister live in Berlin. One day his father is appointed commandant of the concentration camp and the whole family moves to the countryside. In the new place of residence Bruno doesn’t have any friends. When Bruno discovers the countryside he meets an eight-year Jew (Szmul) who is a prisoner of the concentration camp. Between the boys tied friendship. Soon Bruno, just before moving out of the new home, enters the concentration camp. The boys went to the gas chamber and they have ‘been there forever’, they died.
I liked this movie because it showed how adult and kids were treated in concentration camps. It’s shocked me ! It wasn’t fair to treat Jews like other people.

On 10 of February, late noon, we have met to see the film about holocaust.
The title of the film is “Korczak”. The film is quite old and all history is shown in shades of black and white. The film perception is quite different from previous watched films.
As for me he wouldn’t have had such an impression on us, if it looked the same as the then films.
It tells the stories of Polish-Jewish doctor. It is very credible story from time to time supported fragments of documentaries. Janusz Korczak, the main character looks after Jewish children from the orphanage, after he was forbidden to transmit radio.
Particularly important in the film is its ending, because it ends when Korczak and the children boarded the train to Treblinka. After some time their carrage has been disconnected and all run out and perish in the mist - a symbolic death of heroes.
The film is really very impressive, touching and thought-provoking.
To further understand the stories of the Jews for the next day (11 February)we went on a trip to the museum in Markowa. Before we visited the tomb of the Ulma’s family. This trip has been dedicated to them. We have found how they lived, in what conditions, what were they occupations, and most importantly - they took under his wing a few Jews.
It's amazing that a willingness to help at that time caused the death of all the family.
These two days many brought to my life. I have learned a lot about those times.
I realized how tragic was the story of the Jews in Poland but also in Europe.

On Monday 11th February, 2014 we were watching a film entitled “Korczak”. First, we were listening our teacher who was telling us about life of Jews in Poland during the First and Second World War. It was interesting, but also brutal and ruthless. This story touched me.
“Korczak” is the 1990s film directed by Andrzej Wajda with script written by Agnieszka Holland. It is
a black-and-white film. It tells about Polish-Jewish humanitarian Henryk Goldszmit (the pen name of Janusz Korczak). He was a Polish-Jewish educator, children’s books author and pediatrician known as “Mr. Doctor” or “Old Doctor”. He spent many years working as a director of an orphanage in Warsaw. He loved his charges above all and they loved him as much. Even though he could choose freedom. He was such a famous person that even the Gestapo gave him a chance to run away with another name. He loved orphans so much that stayed with they when the institution was sent from the Jewish Ghetto to the Treblinka Extermination Camp during the Grossaktion Warschau in 1942. He died with orphans in gas chambers.
I like this film. It was sad and touching, but I think that everyone should see it. It shows with reality life of Jews during the World Wars.
Then, on Tuesday 11th February , 2014 we went to Markowa, where had lived Józef and Wiktoria Ulm with their children. We visited their grave and were listened our teacher who gave us a lecture about their life.
In the summer and autumn in 1942 the Nazis butchered the most of Jewish. Only those who were hidden in Polish peasants homes survived. Józef Ulma and his family put all eight Jews in their household. On early morning of 24th March 1944 a patrol of German Police came to the Ulm’s house. One of the Blue Police informed about this German Police. The Germans surrounded the house and caught all eight Jews. They shot them at the back of head. Then soldiers killed pregnant Wiktoria, Józef and all their children.
Next, we visited the open – air museum in Markowa and saw the exhibition of the Ulm family pictures. Those pictures took Józef Ulma with his selfmade camera. We saw also grave monument to Ulm family. At the end we went to Kraczkowa. We saw another exhibition of the Ulm family pictures.
I think that everyone should act like Janusz Korczak and the Ulm family. It isn’t simple, I know, but it shows our courage and nobility. They put their lives at risk. It’s touching that there are people who are capable of taking risk for another human being. It shoes the real value of life.

The most Jews suffered in the holocaust. Many interesting films about it have been made. These, among the others, are ‘The Boy In the Striped Pyjamas’ and ‘You are free, doctor Korczak’.
The first one tells about an eight-year-old Bruno's sad history. The boy moved with the family to the village, because his father became a commander of the concentration camp. One day Bruno is getting to know his peer, Shmuel, who is a Jew staying in the camp. Right before the another move, Bruno is getting to the camp and is pushed into the gas chamber. The film is portraying the perception of the camp life from a perspective of the child.
The second film shows the history of the doctor and the teacher, Janusz Korczak. He founded the orphanage for Jewish children. Soon the ghetto, in which the orphanage is located, is liquidated. Korczak can abandon it but he refuses because he does not want to leave the children on their own. Everyone is taken to a concentration camp.
Except these two films there are many others telling the story of Holocaust . All the thoughts, reflections and evaluations included in the film help us to be open to these subjects. Thanks to that, we have a guarantee, that the tragedy from the past won't repeat itself.

Our school takes part in the project called Comenius. In connection with that, we have got some topics to find out more about.
Two weeks ago we focused on Holocaust issue.
One day we had movie evening at school. At the beginning, history teacher told us a little bit about the situation of Jews at the time of The Second World War. We got to know things we didn't realise before. We knew about the persecutions, but didn't have a clue they were so terrible.
Then, we watched a biographical film "Korczak" about the doctor Janusz Korczak, who lived in those times. He is unique character, because he loved children so much that he died with them. When the group of orphans he was looking after has been forced to go in the transport to Treblinka, he decided to go with them for certain death. The film shows the frightful reality of The Second World War.
The day after we went for a trip to Markowa. We visited cemetery and open air museum. We were told about the history of the Ulma family. Joseph and his wife Wiktoria were protecting in their house a group of Jews. They were risking their lives allowing them to hide in their house. Unfortunately ,Germans finally killed Jews, Joseph, Wiktoria and their six children. Wiktoria was also pregnant at the moment of death.
Both movie evening and the trip were very educating and showed us the worst events from our history.

On Monday evening in my school took place the movie evening. Our group watched a film about the holocaust. Unfortunately I wasn't on the movie evening, but I heard that the movie was very realistic and touching.
The next day we went on the trip to Markowa. Our group saw the grave Ulma's family. Our teatcher said their history. They were murdered by the nazis during second world war. Ulma's family was very big. This marrage' ve got six children. Everybody was kiled.
Then we went to museum in Markowa. Our group saw old country chats and endowment indoors. We saw a lot of old things, wchich was used in the past, for example old shoes, things of household.
Next we went to culture centre and our group watching the Ulma's family pictures. I thing the trip was very interesting, we learned a lot of the holocaust.

I've learned many interesting things from the Comenius project. First, we met in school at 10th of february, to watch movie called "Korczak". Before we watched it, one of history teachers told us about fate of Jewish people during Second World war. We've learned a lot of both interesting, and horrible things about it. It was hard not to be shocked because of that. Afet it, we watched the movie. It's plot was about Janusz Korczak, famous Jewish-Polish pedagogue. We was running an orphanage both before WW II, and in Warsaw ghetto. We saw all the terrible things that were happening to people there. On the next day, we went to tirp with the same teacher, to Mrągowa, village near our city, to see the grave of Ulm family. They were Polish marriage with 6 children, that were hiding Jews during Second World War, but gestapo found them, and killed all Jews, and entire family. Because of that, I've realised that we don't have got to search heroes in mythology, comics, movies, but in history. Teacher told us that this was very brave thing, to hide a Jew. When Germans would find out that you were hiding them, they would kill not only Jew, but also your entire family. The Ulm family was awarded with Righteous Among the Nations medal, a honorific that Israel is giving to non-Jews, that were risking their lives to save them during Holocaust. Movie and trip not only teached us about this certain things, but also about that some things shouldn't happen ever again.
Jakub Szypuła

A Holocaust Remembrance Day was held by our school on 10th February 2014.
We and our Comenius carers organized an evening meeting for students dedicated to Janusz Korczak.
First, a Polish teacher told us a few words about the Holocaust and some Polish heros related to the said topic.
Next, we spent some time watching a movie inspired by the story about Janusz Korczak.
We spent the following day on a field trip to Markowa. First, we visited the cementary where we had a chance of giving our regards at the Ulma tomb. We got to know the history of this family which was very moving and tragic at tke same time. Than we went to a heritage park where we could see historical buildings from the Second World War.
We came across some very old photos. Among them we found photos of the Ulma family.
I strongly believe that all people are born equal no matter what their skin colour is or which religion they choose to worship.
The second World War period was a horrible time for humanity. It was full of cruelty and inhumane behaviour.
The Holocaust was an unthinkable genocide and it left a huge impact on modern history.
Intentional killing is worse than any act of a hungry predator because it is done with knowlegole, thought and disregard for the worth of human life.
Studying the history of the Holocaust can prevent such terrible events in the future.

On 11 February we went on a trip. We visited the museum in Markowa and Ulma family tomb , where Mr. Zieba told us about their history , and about the persecution of Jews during World War II. He talked about how great a sacrifice , putting himself and his family in order to protect one human being. Ulma family managed to protect the Jews for a very long time, but unfortunately at the end of the war the Jews have been identified and instantly killed , and soon after marriage Ulm with 6 children . Together we said a prayer for their souls , then we went to the museum . There we saw old houses in which people lived formerly in Poland. Preserved there are other buildings from this period , such as a mill and a well. Learned from the guide into the daily life of the inhabitants . When we came back to school, we stayed for another stop, where we saw an exhibition on the Holocaust prepared for the fast by Mr. Zieba .
Trip generally liked and it was very interesting and informative . Enjoy a variety of was to learn something new about the Polish war . I admire the Ulma family for their courage and sacrifice in defense of the Jews .
